Friuli Venezia Giulia will present its scientific and innovation network at the United Nations in New York on Oct. 16, as part of a weeklong mission to the United States aimed at strengthening economic, institutional and research ties.

Regional President Massimiliano Fedriga and Alessia Rosolen, the regional councilor responsible for labor, education, research and universities, will travel to New York and Washington from Oct. 14 to 20 for a series of meetings with business leaders, institutions and policy experts.

At the United Nations headquarters, the two officials will take part in an event highlighting the region’s scientific and innovation system and the role of international scientific cooperation in advancing the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

“The United States represents a key partner for Friuli Venezia Giulia,” Fedriga said, pointing to longstanding relationships based on historical ties, shared values and cooperation across economic, social and cultural fields.

He said strengthening dialogue with the United States was particularly important amid growing international tensions and geopolitical change, with the aim of identifying new opportunities for the region.

The New York program will also include meetings with a delegation of Italian entrepreneurs operating in the United States, senior executives from Meta and representatives of two Jewish organizations, the World Jewish Congress and the American Jewish Committee.

The delegation will then travel to Washington to attend the National Italian American Foundation’s annual gala, a major gathering for the Italian American community.

Fedriga and Rosolen are also scheduled to meet with representatives of the Wilson Center and the Atlantic Council, two institutions focused on international policy and transatlantic relations. Discussions will address global economic and geopolitical shifts, the role of innovation in development policies and prospects for cooperation between Europe and the United States.

“International engagement is becoming increasingly important for regional policymaking,” Fedriga said. Exchanges with researchers, businesses and policy experts, he added, can help the region better understand global changes and identify new paths for development.
