Interview: Massimiliano Fedriga, Friuli Venezia Giulia governor; Alessio Semerani, Dean of Consular Corps of Trieste, Honorary Consul General of Peru
A new agreement between the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government and the consular corps in Trieste aims to strengthen international cooperation and promote the region abroad through joint cultural and economic initiatives.
The agreement, signed at the regional government headquarters, brings together the region and the 32 diplomatic representations—both career and honorary consulates—based in Trieste. Representing the consular corps was Alessio Semerani, honorary consul of Peru and dean of the corps, while Regional President Massimiliano Fedriga signed on behalf of the government.
Fedriga said the partnership seeks to provide a more structured framework for the consular network, which he described as unique in Italy for a city that is not the national capital. He said the agreement will support initiatives in both Friuli Venezia Giulia and the countries represented by the consulates, helping showcase economic, cultural and investment opportunities.
Among the projects cited was the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), which Fedriga described as a potential opportunity to strengthen international connections between the region and partner countries.
