Starting June 16, a regional ordinance signed by governor Massimiliano Fedriga and Civil Protection Councilor Riccardo Riccardi prohibits outdoor work between 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. in agriculture, horticulture, construction, roadwork and quarrying on days and in areas classified as “high risk” by the Worklimate platform.

The restrictions apply specifically to workers exposed to direct sunlight while performing intense physical activity, according to the risk assessments published on the platform. The measure will remain in effect through Sept. 15.

The ordinance also allows construction sites and similar outdoor operations to begin or end work one hour earlier or later than normally permitted under municipal regulations governing temporary noise. The exemption applies only to activities carried out entirely outdoors.

The provision does not apply in municipalities with a strong seaside tourism economy. Local governments also retain the authority to regulate the matter differently through their own ordinances.
