The Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government has allocated €1.5 million for a new grant program aimed at improving and preserving urban green spaces across the region.

Under the initiative, municipalities will be eligible to apply for funding to maintain and enhance public green areas, including the care and pruning of notable and historic trees, the creation or improvement of accessible walking paths, the installation of educational signage, new tree planting, and upgrades to urban furnishings.

Applications will be accepted from July 13 through Sept. 30, 2026. Grants will cover up to 100 percent of eligible project costs, ranging from €20,000 to €50,000 per municipality. Funding will be awarded on a rolling basis.

Municipalities may request an advance payment of up to 70 percent of the approved grant. For projects involving green spaces or tree-lined areas not owned by local governments, municipalities must enter into a five-year agreement with property owners guaranteeing free public access for at least 100 days each year.

Municipalities that received funding under the same program last year but have not yet submitted the required financial reports will not be eligible to apply.

The region funded projects in 44 municipalities in 2024, distributing nearly €2 million. In 2025, 29 municipalities received a combined €1.21 million through the program.
