Friuli Venezia Giulia plans to allocate €1.85 million in 2026 to support the region’s maritime economy, including investments in marina innovation, boat refitting, lower-emission engines and shipbuilding-related businesses, regional officials announced Thursday.

Speaking at the Blue Marina Awards event at Marina Uno in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Regional Councillor for Productive Activities and Tourism Sergio Emidio Bini said the region’s nautical development law, which took effect in 2025, has already generated significant interest from industry operators. Approximately €3 million was allocated during its first year to support innovation and tourism growth in the sector.

Bini said Friuli Venezia Giulia ranks among Italy’s leading maritime economies, placing third nationally for the economic weight of the sector, second for the number of marinas and first for berths relative to coastline length. The industry employs about 2,000 people, in addition to a broader network of businesses and suppliers.

Lignano Sabbiadoro plays a central role in the sector, with seven marinas and 4,420 berths — more than half of the region’s total capacity.

Regional officials said a new round of funding calls will be issued in the coming months to further support sustainable development and innovation across the nautical industry.
