The 28th annual meeting of the European Research Vessel Operators (ERVO) will take place in Trieste from June 8 to 10, bringing together managers and operators of Europe’s research fleets to discuss emerging technologies, marine research infrastructure and challenges facing the sector.
Organized by the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics (OGS), the event will coincide with the arrival of two of Italy’s leading research vessels, the Laura Bassi and the Gaia Blu, both of which will be open to the public through free guided visits.
The icebreaking vessel Laura Bassi, owned by OGS, will be docked at Scala Reale in Piazza Unità d’Italia from June 7 to 12, while the Gaia Blu, operated by Italy’s National Research Council (CNR), will be moored at Molo IV and open to visitors on June 7 and 8.
Visits are free but require advance online registration. Organizers say the initiative offers a rare opportunity for residents and visitors to step aboard working scientific vessels and learn about oceanographic research.
