The City of Trieste announced that the Giardino Pubblico “de Tommasini,” one of the city’s most frequented public parks, will be closed to visitors from Monday, May 25, through Friday, May 29, to allow for an intensive rat-control operation.

Municipal officials said the closure, which affects the park located along Via Giulia, is necessary to carry out what they described as “scheduled and unavoidable” extermination work. During the five-day period, access to the garden will be restricted exclusively to authorized personnel involved in the intervention.

In its statement, the municipality also reminded residents that leaving food for animals inside the park and abandoning waste are prohibited and subject to fines. Officials urged visitors to dispose of trash in the designated containers, noting that improper waste management can contribute to hygiene and pest-control issues in public spaces.

The Giardino Pubblico de Tommasini, a popular gathering place for families, children and students, is expected to reopen to the public at the conclusion of the operation on May 29.
