A presentation of a new Italian-language biography of filmmaker Woody Allen will take place on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Trieste, as part of the national “Il maggio dei libri” literary initiative.

The event, hosted at the Sala Bobi Bazlen in Palazzo Gopcevich, will feature writer and film scholar Mario Mucciarelli, who will introduce his latest book, Woody Allen. Film, amori e nevrosi, published in 2026 by Sagoma Editore. The volume is presented as an updated and comprehensive biography of the New York-born director, released on the occasion of his 90th birthday.

Organizers describe the book as an extensive examination of Allen’s life and work, tracing his trajectory from his early career as a comedy writer in New York to his emergence as an internationally recognized filmmaker, actor and playwright. The biography covers his filmography, theatrical works and written output, situating them within the broader arc of his artistic development.

Mucciarelli’s study also addresses recurring themes in Allen’s work, including relationships, anxiety and personal contradictions, which have often been reflected in both his public image and creative production. The book aims to provide a detailed overview of a career spanning several decades, marked by critical acclaim, controversy and commercial success.

From Manhattan to Match Point, the biography revisits key films that have shaped Allen’s reputation as a distinctive voice in contemporary cinema. According to the publisher, the work seeks to combine scholarly analysis with a narrative approach accessible to a wider readership.

The author, Mario Mucciarelli, works across cinema, radio, theatre and fiction. He has written screenplays including The Space Between and La guerra a Cuba, and has published works of fiction and short stories. He has also contributed to radio and podcast projects focused on comedy and performance.
