Interview: Cristina Amirante, FVG Councilor for Infrastructure and Territory

The Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government hosted a transport and logistics conference at Marina Lepanto in Monfalcone. Cristina Amirante, Regional Councilor for Infrastructure and Territory, described the region as a “strategic logistics hub,” citing the regional economy’s reliance on freight and logistics. She identified rail infrastructure expansion as essential to managing growing volumes linked to emerging trade corridors, including routes toward India. She also highlighted congestion on rail lines serving the Port of Trieste, as well as the need for stronger interport specialization.

Local officials and industry representatives attended the event, including Marco Consalvo, President of the Autorità Portuale del Mare Adriatico Orientale, along with representatives of regional interport authorities.

The conference outlined recent developments and future objectives for multimodal transport, ports, interport operations, environmental sustainability, and technological innovation within the regional transport system.

During the event, the regional government presented the first year of activity of the Cabina di regia regionale dei trasporti e della logistica, a coordination body that brings together public authorities, operators, and trade associations to guide infrastructure planning and intermodal transport policy. The region highlighted the body’s contribution to faster coordination during closures on Slovenia’s H4 motorway, helping to limit disruption to the regional road network.

Participants also discussed a draft regional law on private logistics facilities, approved with the support of the Cabina di regia. The proposed legislation is intended to steer private investment while avoiding disproportionate use of publicly funded rail and road infrastructure.

Next steps include submitting the draft law to the regional legislative process and continuing coordination through the Cabina di regia with public and private infrastructure stakeholders.
