The municipal government of Trieste will install four fixed traffic monitoring stations in the Servola district as part of a broader urban development plan funded by the European Regional Development Fund (FESR) 2021–2027. The installations are scheduled to begin next week and continue through mid-December.

The initiative falls under the city’s efforts to promote sustainable urban development, cultural enhancement, digital innovation, and social improvement. A key component of the program is the preparation of a detailed Urban Traffic Plan (PPTU) for Servola, which will guide interventions aimed at improving road safety, pedestrian pathways, parking management, and overall mobility.

The traffic monitoring stations will be located at four intersections in Servola: Via Soncini, just past the district entrance from Via della Pace; Via Servola, before its junction with Via della Calcara; Via Vigneti, between Via Praga and Via Zara; and Via Roncheto, between Via Silvula and Via Giacometti. The data collected will inform the municipal authorities on the current traffic patterns and help identify the most effective measures to enhance safety and accessibility in the neighborhood.

According to Michele Babuder, Trieste’s Councillor for Territorial Policies, the study is designed to provide a technical basis for decisions aimed at improving the quality of public spaces and the daily experience of residents. “These targeted analyses are intended to understand the real dynamics of the district and guide interventions that bring tangible benefits to the community,” he said.

The project represents a step forward in Trieste’s broader strategy to manage urban mobility more sustainably while addressing local safety concerns.
