The 57th edition of the Barcolana sailing regatta, presented by Generali, concluded on Sunday, 30 November with an awards ceremony at Trieste’s Politeama Rossetti, celebrating crews across multiple categories for their performances in the October 12 race. The event marked a return to the large-scale participation and energy for which the city is known.

Barcolana57 drew competitors from 29 countries and attracted over 400,000 spectators to the Gulf of Trieste and surrounding waterfront. Nearly 20,000 people participated in associated activities, highlighting the regatta’s combination of global reach and local engagement.

“This year’s edition was one of the most significant in recent Barcolana history,” said Mitja Gialuz, president of the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano. “The event continues to unite tradition, innovation, and collective energy, keeping sailing and the sea at its core.”

During the ceremony, 124 awards were presented across 15 categories, including first-place overall, cruising, and monotype classes. Several special trophies introduced in 2024 were also awarded, including the Trofeo Miro Cernaz, Trofeo Solaris, and the Trofeo “La Mula de Trieste,” which recognizes the highest-ranked Triestine female boat owner with multiple participations.

Maurizio Cossutti, a Trieste-based yacht designer, received the “Batiscafo Trieste” award for innovation in nautical design. The prize, established to honor pioneering approaches in naval architecture, is inspired by the historic Batiscafo Trieste submarine and includes a bronze sculpture created in collaboration with Fonderia Artistica Pisani.

The ceremony also highlighted the Generali Women in Sailing initiative, now in its seventh year. The program promotes mixed-gender participation and leadership in sailing. This year’s trophy recognized three crews led by female skippers: third-place Bandito, second-place Mundus, and first-place Marta 07, skippered by Giulia Ascione of the Yacht Club Adriaco. Marta 07 also secured second place overall in the regatta, demonstrating skillful navigation of the shifting winds that defined the race.

“The growth of mixed-gender sailing teams reflects broader opportunities for cooperation and leadership,” said Emma Ursich, head of Corporate Identity at Generali. “These teams set an example both on and off the water.”

The awards ceremony also featured winners of the Adriatico Classic Trophy, a circuit connecting three events dedicated to classic and vintage yachts, emphasizing the region’s maritime heritage. Musical performances by Swing à la Carte accompanied the event, which was attended by city and regional authorities.

The 58th edition of Barcolana, presented by Generali, is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, 2026.
