As the sails of the Barcolana regatta fill the Gulf of Trieste on Sunday, October 12, visitors will have a chance to take in the spectacle from one of the city’s most striking vantage points: the Bastione Rotondo at San Giusto Castle.

In celebration of the 57th edition of the world’s largest sailing race, the historic hilltop fortress will open its gates earlier than usual, welcoming guests from 8:30 a.m. to allow them to watch the race from the panoramic terrace overlooking the sea.

The castle’s café, Bar Bastione, will also open at 8:30 a.m., offering coffee, breakfast, and a scenic view from its outdoor terrace. Throughout the morning and into the early afternoon, music curated by DJ Wandervogel—organized by Midnight Srl, the bar’s managing company—will accompany the event.

Access to the Bastione Rotondo will be available until the area reaches its maximum capacity, as determined by safety regulations. Entry requires a museum ticket (€7 for adults, €5 reduced).

Guided tours of the castle will also take place over the weekend. On Sunday at 11:30 a.m., visitors can join a walk along the ramparts and through the museum’s Armory and Lapidarium collections, led by a specialized guide. The tour costs €7 per person plus museum admission, with reservations available through coopculture.it or on site, subject to availability.
