A powerful thunderstorm struck Trieste on Tuesday evening, bringing heavy rain, lightning and hail to the city. The sudden storm disrupted daily life as residents sought shelter from the downpour and intense bursts of thunder and light.
Meteorologists reported that the storm developed rapidly in the late evening of September 16, unleashing strong rainfall across the city and surrounding areas. Hail was also recorded in several neighborhoods, though no immediate reports of major damage had emerged.
Authorities warned that the weather system is not yet over. Overnight, the arrival of the bora — the strong northeasterly wind characteristic of the Adriatic region — is expected to add to already challenging conditions. Gusts could intensify through the night and into Tuesday, raising concerns about coastal safety and possible transport disruptions.
