The Castle of San Giusto, a centuries-old fortress overlooking the Adriatic, will open its walls and bastions to visitors on Thursday, August 28, at 7 p.m., as part of L’ora di storia (“An Hour of History”), a summer program of guided tours at sunset.

The initiative, organized by the City of Trieste and the Castle of San Giusto Museum, has drawn considerable interest in recent weeks, prompting the addition of an extra date. Each tour lasts about an hour and offers participants the chance to explore the castle’s exterior fortifications while learning about the history of both the stronghold and the city it once protected.

A museum guide will lead visitors along the castle’s panoramic walkways, which provide sweeping views of the Gulf of Trieste, the city’s rooftops, and the limestone plateau of the Carso. The tour concludes at the Rotondo Bastion, where the adjacent bar will remain open until midnight, allowing guests to take in the scenery with a drink.

Admission is free, though reservations are required due to limited capacity. Bookings must be made by noon on Thursday, August 28, by writing to castellosangiusto@comune.trieste.it.
