The Municipality of Trieste has officially launched Progetto Scintille, a new urban regeneration initiative focused on the city’s Valmaura and Giarizzole neighborhoods. The project is one of two efforts funded through special grants allocated by the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia to support revitalization projects outside of historic city centers.
The public is being invited to participate in the planning process in two ways. Through July 9 at 11:59 p.m., residents can complete an online questionnaire aimed at gathering opinions and suggestions for the future of Valmaura and Giarizzole. The survey is available on the website of KCity, the urban planning firm assisting with the project (https://www.kcity.it/progetto/progetto-scintille/).
Additionally, a public meeting will be held on July 15 at 3 p.m. at Osteria da Gigi (Via di Servola 117). During the event, city officials and planners will present and discuss the proposed Masterplan for the two neighborhoods, inviting comments and feedback from local residents.
The initiative is being led by the city’s Department for Territorial Policies and funded through a regional law (LR 7/2024, Article 5, Paragraphs 205–207), which provides extraordinary contributions to provincial capitals across Friuli Venezia Giulia. The goal is to support the planning of projects aimed at upgrading public spaces and infrastructure, repurposing existing buildings, enhancing maintenance, and improving green areas — particularly in areas outside the historic core.
According to city officials, the Progetto Scintille seeks to create a more integrated and livable urban environment in Valmaura and Giarizzole through community-centered planning and targeted investments in the urban fabric.
