Bishop Enrico Trevisi of Trieste has called for hope and collective action amid efforts to secure a truce in the Middle East. Speaking at an event organized by the Diocese of Trieste to mark the 26th Day for Dialogue Between Catholics and Jews, the bishop stressed the importance of silencing weapons and fostering mutual understanding.
“Our hope is for a truce in the Middle East,” Bishop Trevisi said. “There is fear of last-minute obstacles, but as soon as the possibility of peace arose, I celebrated Mass for this intention.”
Addressing attendees, including Trieste’s Chief Rabbi Alexander Meloni, the bishop emphasized the shared responsibility of faith communities. “We must push for peace,” he urged. “There is a grassroots force demanding dialogue and the will to understand each other’s pain.”
Bishop Trevisi highlighted the importance of unity, noting the event’s focus on Catholic-Jewish relations and linking it to the upcoming Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. “We must persevere in mutual listening and look to the future with responsibility,” he said.
The gathering, part of Jubilee celebrations, reinforced Trieste’s historical role as a hub of cultural and religious dialogue. The bishop’s message served as a powerful reminder of the urgency of peace in a time of ongoing conflict.
