Trieste’s San Giusto Castle will host the fourth weekend of the 2026 edition of Le stagioni delle armi on Saturday, Aug. 15, and Sunday, Aug. 16, offering visitors a look at both military history and the evolution of men’s fashion between the 16th and 17th centuries.
The weekend program, presented by the historical reenactment group Compagnia d’Arme Malleus, will combine demonstrations and educational activities focused on weapons and historical fencing with a display tracing changes in men’s clothing from the early 1500s to the Thirty Years’ War.
Four reconstructed outfits, representing different stages between 1525 and 1630, will illustrate changes in silhouettes, proportions and practical details. Visitors will also learn about the materials, construction methods and tailoring techniques used to recreate the garments from historical sources.
One section of the exhibition will show a garment still in the process of reconstruction, offering a closer look at how historical clothing is recreated from documentary and visual evidence.
The organizers say the display is intended to highlight both continuity and stylistic changes during a period when clothing was shaped by changing military and civilian needs. Historical images and materials will accompany the presentation.
The educational stations will be open throughout the castle’s opening hours on both days. Guided visits in Italian will depart at 10:30 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 3 p.m., 4:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., with groups limited to 25 people. The program is open to visitors of all ages.
Participation is included with admission to the castle, which costs €7 for a full-price ticket and €5 at the reduced rate.
Le stagioni delle armi is promoted by the Municipality of Trieste’s Department of Culture and Tourism and organized by the Museum of San Giusto Castle. The program is curated by Wavents in collaboration with C.E.R.S. Italia, the European Consortium for Historical Reenactments, and Compagnia d’Arme Malleus.
