As Italy braces for another scorching weekend, Trieste will be under an orange alert this Sunday, while the rest of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region faces a series of thunderstorms. The Caronte anticyclone is set to make a return, ensuring that the weekend continues a trend of persistent heat and humidity across much of Italy.
The Ministry of Health’s latest update highlights that, although the current week has been free of the highest level of heat warnings, Sunday will bring a heightened alert for Trieste. The orange alert, which signifies a moderate risk of heat-related health issues, will affect the city, while the broader region will experience varied weather conditions, including storms.
Forecast for Saturday, July 27:
Residents of Trieste and the surrounding areas can expect generally clear skies or minimal cloud cover throughout the day. However, the mountainous regions will see shifting weather patterns. Morning skies will be mostly clear, but by the afternoon, the western parts of the region might experience variable cloudiness with isolated showers or thunderstorms, particularly in Carnia. Breezy conditions are anticipated, and muggy heat will build up in the plains during the afternoon and along the coast in the evening.
Forecast for Sunday, July 28:
The morning will offer clear or partly cloudy skies across the entire region. Temperatures are expected to climb, with particularly oppressive heat in the plains. By the afternoon, clouds will increase over the mountains, potentially leading to the onset of scattered showers and thunderstorms. These storms could extend into the plains by evening and, though less likely, may also reach the coast. The forecast for the later part of the day remains uncertain, with conditions evolving throughout the evening.
Cities on Orange Alert
Starting Saturday, July 27, 12 cities across Italy will be under an orange alert, indicating a level 2 risk. This includes Bologna, Bolzano, Campobasso, Florence, Frosinone, Latina, Palermo, Perugia, Pescara, Rieti, Rome, and Viterbo. In contrast, Cagliari will see a green alert (Level 0), reflecting a lower risk, while the rest of Italy will experience a yellow alert (Level 1).
As the weekend approaches, residents are advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions against the heat, especially in the areas under higher alert levels.
