Trieste will offer free admission to its civic museums on Nov. 3 as the city marks All Saints’ Day and the feast of St. Justus, its patron saint. The celebrations will also include a concert by the Giuseppe Verdi Civic Wind Orchestra at the Teatro Verdi on Nov. 3.

The initiative expands the Ministry of Culture’s Domenica al Museo program, which provides free admission to cultural institutions on the first Sunday of each month. This year, the city has extended the opportunity to include Tuesday, Nov. 3, the feast day of St. Justus.

Among the museums offering free admission on both days are the Revoltella Museum, San Giusto Castle, the Carlo Schmidl Theatre Museum, the Diego de Henriquez Museum of War for Peace and the Natural History Museum.

Other participating institutions include the Maritime Museum, the Sartorio Museum, the J.J. Winckelmann Museum of Antiquities, the Risiera di San Sabba, the Basovizza Foiba Documentation Center, the Museum of the Risorgimento and Oberdan Memorial, and the Museum of Istrian, Fiuman and Dalmatian Civilization. Temporary exhibitions at Magazzino 26 will also be accessible free of charge.

The LETS – Literature Trieste Museum will remain closed on Tuesday, in keeping with its regular weekly schedule. Special exhibitions not included in standard museum admission, including the Jack Vettriano exhibition at the Salone degli Incanti, are excluded from the initiative. The Vettriano exhibition will remain open Nov. 1-3, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The city has also organized activities for children at several museums during the holiday period.

Concert celebrates Trieste’s patron saint

Music will take center stage on Nov. 3 with the traditional St. Justus Concert, presented by the Giuseppe Verdi Civic Wind Orchestra in collaboration with the municipality.

The performance, titled Of Castles and Legends: Stories, Images and Legends, will take place at 6 p.m. in the Victor de Sabata Hall at the Teatro Verdi.

Conducted by musical director Matteo Firmi and presented by actor Julian Sgherla, the program will explore musical landscapes inspired by history, folklore and imagined worlds.

The concert will open with Benjamin Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, followed by Thomas Doss’s Of Castles and Legends and Philip Sparke’s Suite from Hymn of the Highlands, inspired by the landscapes of Scotland.

The second half will feature selections from Richard Rodgers’s The Sound of Music, arranged by Naohiro Iwai, and Frederick Loewe’s My Fair Lady, arranged by Alfred Reed. The program will conclude with Shelley Hanson’s Albanian Dance.

Admission is free, but reservations are required because seating is limited. Tickets can be collected in person at the Teatro Verdi box office, open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., while supplies last.

Religious celebrations at San Giusto Cathedral

The city’s Civic Chapel will provide music for the solemn liturgies marking All Saints’ Day and the feast of St. Justus at San Giusto Cathedral.

The services will be presided over by Bishop Enrico Trevisi of Trieste, continuing the city’s religious observances in honor of its patron saint.
