Trieste Airport said it has not received any formal notification from Air Dolomiti regarding reports that the airline’s service between Trieste and Frankfurt could be suspended during the 2026–27 winter season.
In a statement, the airport said discussions are continuing with Air Dolomiti and its parent company, Lufthansa Group, to determine whether the route can be maintained year-round.
The uncertainty comes as Lufthansa reviews its network ahead of the winter schedule following operational adjustments linked to rising fuel costs. According to Trieste Airport, the airline group canceled approximately 20,000 flights during the current summer season as part of broader cost-cutting measures, although flights to and from Trieste were not affected.
Airport officials said the Frankfurt connection, while generating relatively modest passenger traffic during the winter months, remains strategically important because it provides businesses and residents of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region with access to one of Europe’s largest international aviation hubs.
Trieste Airport and the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government said they are working in close coordination as negotiations continue and will provide updates once official information becomes available.
For now, airport officials emphasized that no final decision has been communicated regarding the future of the Frankfurt service during the upcoming winter season.
