A communications campaign designed to encourage young people to pursue nursing careers has received national recognition, highlighting regional efforts to address workforce needs in the healthcare sector.
The Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government announced that its campaign, titled “Io Scelgo Te” (“I Choose You”), received a special mention at the Smartphone d’Oro 2026 awards, a national initiative organized by the Fondazione Italia Digitale that recognizes innovation and excellence in public-sector communication. The awards ceremony took place in Rome on Monday.
The campaign was developed by the Region’s Press and Communications Office to promote nursing degree programs offered by the Universities of Trieste and Udine. It aims to support generational renewal within the healthcare workforce by raising awareness of nursing as a profession and highlighting educational and career opportunities available within the regional healthcare system.
Regional Health Councillor Riccardo Riccardi said the recognition reflected the administration’s efforts to use modern communication tools to engage the public effectively.
According to regional officials, the campaign was created in response to growing concerns about the future availability of healthcare professionals, particularly nurses, who play a central role in patient care and the functioning of hospitals and community health services.
The initiative forms part of a broader strategy by Friuli Venezia Giulia to strengthen its healthcare system through investment in professional training and workforce development. Regional authorities have sought to increase the attractiveness of healthcare careers while improving the alignment between educational programs and labor market needs.
Officials said the campaign focused not only on career prospects but also on the social and human dimensions of nursing, targeting students who are considering their future educational and professional paths.
The Smartphone d’Oro awards are presented annually to public administrations that demonstrate innovative approaches to digital communication and citizen engagement.
