Trieste Trasporti, the public transport operator in Trieste, warned that bus services and customer service offices could face disruptions on Friday, Oct. 30, as the local branch of the USB Private Sector Workers union’s transport division joins a nationwide 24-hour general strike.
The strike comes despite an intervention by Italy’s Guarantee Commission on strikes in essential public services, which identified a potential violation of rules protecting certain periods from industrial action, including those associated with the commemoration of the dead.
The commission urged unions to exclude the affected sectors from the strike. As of Tuesday, however, Trieste Trasporti said it had received no notice that the union’s participation had been withdrawn.
Public transport services will be guaranteed during the designated minimum-service periods, from 6 to 9 a.m. and from 1 to 4 p.m.
Outside those hours, passengers may experience delays, cancellations or other service disruptions.
