As much of Europe braces for an early summer heatwave, Friuli Venezia Giulia is set to experience its first significant spell of hot weather of the season.
The surge in temperatures is being driven by a North African high-pressure system that has settled over southern and central Europe, bringing stable conditions and unusually warm air across the continent. Meteorologists say the pattern is expected to intensify in the coming days as the summer solstice approaches.
In Friuli Venezia Giulia, Thursday is forecast to be mostly sunny, with only limited cloud cover during the morning and the possibility of isolated afternoon showers in inland areas. Temperatures are expected to rise well above seasonal norms, reaching between 31 and 36 degrees Celsius across much of the region.
The heat arrives as many parts of Europe continue to recover from an exceptionally warm and dry period in late spring. Forecasters warn that dry ground conditions can amplify heat, allowing temperatures to climb more rapidly and making prolonged warm spells more intense.
Residents across northeastern Italy are also being advised to prepare for several days of summer-like heat and humidity.
