In a presentation before the Regional Council’s VI Commission on Tuesday, Friuli Venezia Giulia officials outlined a broad expansion of university support measures for 2026, including increased scholarships, wider housing access and new investments in student accommodation.
The updated guidelines for higher education support include €53.5 million in planned spending between 2024 and 2027 for university housing, building maintenance and student residences, alongside ongoing redevelopment projects in Pordenone.
Regional funding for university support programs totaled more than €79.7 million between 2022 and 2026, with additional European Social Fund resources directed toward scholarships and student services.
The revised measures raise both income eligibility thresholds and scholarship amounts. Students living away from home will now be eligible for grants of up to €7,171 annually, while commuter and local students will also see increases.
Student housing capacity remains centered in Trieste, with additional residences available in Udine, Gorizia, Pordenoneand Gemona del Friuli. Subsidized rents and housing contributions for eligible students unable to secure regional accommodation will continue.
The guidelines also extend benefits for the first time to students enrolled in higher technical institutes, or Its programs, through dedicated scholarship and housing calls.
Additional measures include expanded psychological counseling services, transportation discounts for university students and enhanced support for students with disabilities, including adapted accommodation and modified academic and income requirements.
