Local authorities have announced a slight forecasted exceedance of the target ozone level for Thursday, April 30, 2026, following updated projections from ARPA FVG, the regional environmental protection agency.
According to the forecast, atmospheric ozone (O₃) concentrations are expected to rise slightly above the objective threshold of 120 micrograms per cubic meter in the municipality of Trieste. Officials said the increase is primarily linked to favorable weather conditions that encourage the formation of ozone in the lower atmosphere.
The notice was issued in accordance with Point 4 of the Municipal Action Plan approved by City Council resolution No. 31 on February 11, 2013, which outlines measures aimed at reducing the effects of elevated ozone concentrations.
Municipal authorities are advising residents—particularly those considered more sensitive to air pollution, including children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions—to consider taking precautions to limit exposure during the day.
These recommendations follow guidance provided by Azienda Sanitaria n. 1 Triestina, the local health authority, in a note originally issued on January 3, 2013.
Ground-level ozone is a common summer pollutant formed when sunlight reacts with emissions from vehicles, industrial activities, and other sources. Higher concentrations are often recorded during warm, sunny periods with limited wind circulation.
