On Saturday, December 13, the Casa del Cinema di Trieste, in collaboration with the Associazione De Banfield, will present a soft screening of Gabriele Salvatores’s 2024 film Napoli – New York at Cinema Ariston. The screening, scheduled for 10 a.m., is part of the “Fuori Campo – Cultura del territorio” series, which aims to promote local culture through cinema.
The initiative is designed to make the film experience more accessible to audiences living with dementia and their families. Measures include an early-morning start, a 20-minute intermission with a complimentary snack, and reduced sound levels to create a more relaxed atmosphere. Daniele Terzoli will introduce the film, and a single discounted ticket is available for €6.
Napoli – New York follows the story of two children, Carmine and Celestina, navigating postwar Naples amid widespread poverty. One night, they clandestinely board a ship bound for New York to join Celestina’s sister, who emigrated months earlier. The children, along with other Italian immigrants, face a series of challenges before gradually adapting to life in an unfamiliar city. Filming took place in Naples, Trieste, Cinecittà studios in Rome, and Rijeka, Croatia.
Salvatores described the project as a rare opportunity. “Just acquiring a story written by Federico Fellini and Tullio Pinelli, about which little was known, seemed wonderful… Napoli – New York is inspired by a true story told as a fable… a classic film with a very modern soul,” he said.
The screening is part of the broader Fuori Campo – Cultura del territorio program, supported by the Friuli Venezia Giulia region under its “Io sono FVG” initiative.
