Trieste is once again set to host the ShorTS International Film Festival, now in its 25th edition. Running from June 28 to July 6, 2024, this beloved event celebrates the art of short filmmaking with a rich and diverse program that promises to captivate audiences and industry insiders alike.

Saturday, June 29: A Day to Celebrate Visionaries

The festival’s second day kicks off at 7:00 PM at Teatro Miela, where filmmakers Damiano and Fabio D’Innocenzo will be honored with the Premio Cinema del Presente. Known for their evocative realism and deep explorations of the human condition, the D’Innocenzo brothers have carved out a distinctive niche in contemporary cinema. Their work delves into the intricacies of familial and friendly bonds and the innate violence of life, earning them critical acclaim and a dedicated following.

The evening’s highlight will be a masterclass conducted by the D’Innocenzo duo, offering attendees a rare glimpse into their creative process. This session, open to the public, will include selected sequences from their films, providing a comprehensive look at their artistic journey. The brothers are also set to discuss their upcoming series “Dostoevskij,” slated for release in theaters and on Sky.

A Night Under the Stars at Giardino Pubblico

As the night unfolds, the Giardino Pubblico will become the focal point of cinematic exploration. At 9:15 PM, acclaimed director Daniele Ciprì will present his latest short film, “Enif al.” This project is a product of Ciprì’s ongoing collaboration with the Piano Focale film school in Palermo, reflecting on the human and artistic spirit through the lens of cinematic imagination.

Following Ciprì’s presentation, the ShorTS Express competition will take center stage. This segment of the festival showcases 23 short films from 17 countries, spanning genres from animation to documentary to experimental works. These films are distinguished by their creators’ pursuit of visual and narrative innovation.

Among the featured films is “El Naciente/Emerging,” a humor-infused tale by the award-winning Spanish director David Pantaleón. The story centers on a brilliant Korean researcher fixated on making a groundbreaking discovery. Also making her directorial debut is Monica Rattazzi, a Franco-Moroccan-Italian screenwriter and writer. Her film “Immortels” tells a poignant story of resilience and courage, depicting a protagonist’s journey through and beyond difficult times.
