Up and down: this is how we feel these days. The Italian government has to no one’s surprise extended the lockdown until at least April 13th. We get the sense that they don’t want to announce a date too far in the future for fear of worrying the public – but it will surely be extended again. This morning Protezione Civile’s head Angelo Borrelli in his talk to Rai Radio 1 hinted at prolonging the lockdown until the beginning of May, with the eventual start of the so-called second phase in the middle of May. When asked if, in addition to Easter, Italians would still be stuck indoors for the Primo Maggio holiday, Borrelli replied: “I really believe so, I don’t think this situation will pass by that date. We will have to stay at home for many weeks.”
The lockdown has become the new normal for everyone at this point, which is scary in its own way. However, every single one of us is doing their part in keeping the numbers down and if you and your family are doing fine you can’t ask for anything more than that at this point. After all, we are all in this together.
