Friuli Venezia Giulia confirmed the reopening of its ski slopes from 19 February to 5 March 2021, only to revoke its new ordinance a few hours later as Italian health minister Roberto Speranza signed a new order late on Sunday night.
Friuli Venezia Giulia, which was designated a yellow zone under the nation’s tiered system of coronavirus restrictions on 1 February, was supposed to reopen its ski slopes from 19 February to 5 March 2021 as per latest FVG decree (which has now been revoked).
However, late Sunday night, the newly appointed health minister Roberto Speranza decided to keep the slopes closed all over Italy.
The last-minute decision to keep them closed follows advice from the technical scientific committee (CTS) advising the government on the coronavirus crisis. The CTS blamed the “changed epidemiological conditions” due to the “widespread circulation” of variants of virus, reports ANSA.
“Unfortunately, it’s the businesses that will have to pay the highest price of remaining closed”, comments president of FVG Massimiliano Fedriga.
