Trieste is bringing a selection of children’s films to its neighborhood libraries this autumn with the return of “Cinema in Biblioteca,” a program designed to introduce young audiences to cinema in a familiar community setting.
Now in its second edition, the series will open Saturday, Oct. 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the Stelio Mattioni Municipal Libraryin Borgo San Sergio.
The opening program, “Peter and His Friends Discover Nature,” features a selection of Hungarian animated shorts from the 1960s. The films follow Peter, his younger sister Katy, their dachshund Felix and Professor Leo as they explore the natural world and learn about the planet around them.
The screening is intended for children ages 3 and older. Admission is free, though reservations are required for the opening event.
The series will continue at other neighborhood libraries. A screening is scheduled for Oct. 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lina Marii Marinelli Municipal Library in Rozzol Melara, followed by another on Nov. 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pier Antonio Quarantotti Gambini Municipal Library in San Giacomo.
The program is curated by Alpe Adria Cinema – Trieste Film Festival in cooperation with the City of Trieste’s education, tourism, culture, sports and library services. It is supported by a regional grant for the promotion of Friuli Venezia Giulia and developed with the cooperation of Hungary’s National Film Institute – Film Archive.
