A selection of films from the 2026 Venice International Film Festival will tour cinemas across Friuli Venezia Giulia from Sept. 29 to Nov. 5, bringing award-winning independent cinema to audiences in five cities through a free regional screening program.
Now in its 10th edition, Le Giornate della Mostra del Cinema di Venezia – I Film della Settimana della Critica presents works from two independent sections of the Venice Film Festival: the International Critics’ Week (Settimana Internazionale della Critica), dedicated to debut feature films by emerging directors, and the Giornate degli Autori, which showcases films by both new and established auteurs.
The initiative is organized through a collaboration between AGIS, ANEC, FICE delle Tre Venezie, local cultural institutions and the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Regional Vice President and Culture Councillor Mario Anzil said the anniversary marks a significant milestone for a program that has become a recurring cultural event in the region, emphasizing its role in promoting auteur cinema and expanding public access to contemporary filmmaking.
Manuele Sangalli, president of FICE delle Tre Venezie, said this year’s Critics’ Week selection highlights a new generation of women directors whose films were chosen from a record number of submissions. He described the program as a collection of independent works that blend fiction and documentary while exploring themes including adolescence, family, memory and identity.
Five cinemas across the region
The screenings will take place in five participating theaters:
- Cinema Ariston in Trieste
- Multisala Visionario in Udine
- Kinemax in Gorizia
- Kinemax in Monfalcone
- Cinemazero in Pordenone
All screenings are free of charge.
Award-winning Venice titles
The program includes all seven feature films from the 41st International Critics’ Week competition, including several Venice award winners.
Among them are Prima della guerra by Tommaso Usberti, recipient of the IWONDERFULL Grand Prize; Our Share of Sand by Shalini Adnani, which won the Audience Award; The End of Times by Bibiana Rojas Gómez and Juan David Cárdenas; Zoom In, Zoom Out by Dong Jie; and London by Victor Di Marco and Márcio Picoli, winner of the 2026 Queer Lion.
The regional tour also features acclaimed short films from the SIC@SIC section, including E-I-E-I-O by Noemi Arfuso, Revolver by Paoli De Luca and Se mai le cose by Giulia Cosentino.
Alongside the Critics’ Week selections, audiences in Trieste, Udine, Gorizia and Pordenone will also see films from the Giornate degli Autori, including A veces me entra tristeza, otras veces rebelión by María Aparicio, Une Femme Aujourd’hui by Robert Guédiguian, and Balcanica by Nicola Sorcinelli. The program also includes Agata the Writer by Kuba Dorabialski, starring Mia Wasikowska, I Plant My Hand in the Garden by Boris Hadžija and Hoda Taheri, and the documentary Anatomia di un ritratto, dedicated to Fernanda Wittgens, the first woman to direct Milan’s Pinacoteca di Brera.
