A series of free guided evening tours at the Castello di San Giusto is offering visitors a chance to explore Trieste’s history while enjoying panoramic sunset views over the city and the Adriatic Sea.

The program, L’Ora di Storia (“The Hour of History”), features four outdoor tours led by museum guides, each focusing on a different period in the city’s past. The tours take place along the castle walls and bastions and are conducted in Italian.

The schedule includes an overview of Trieste’s evolution from Roman times to the present on July 2; a look at the city’s Roman and medieval heritage on July 15; an exploration of Habsburg-era Trieste on July 26; and a tour examining the city’s complex 20th-century history on Aug. 5.

Organized by the Municipality of Trieste, the Castello di San Giusto Museum and CoopCulture, the initiative is free of charge, but reservations are required and space is limited. Tours will be canceled in the event of bad weather.

After each visit, participants can stop at the Bastione Rotondo bar, which overlooks Trieste and the sea.
