Friuli Venezia Giulia has signed an agreement to translate the Italian Constitution into Venetian-based regional dialects, expanding efforts to promote and preserve linguistic diversity.
The initiative, involving the regional language agency Agjenzie Regjonâl pe Lenghe Furlane and the Consorzio culturale del Monfalconese, focuses on dialects including Bisiaco, Gradese, Maranese, and Triestine vernaculars. It builds on ongoing cultural exchanges with the neighboring Veneto.
Officials said the project highlights the civic value of local speech forms and reinforces their institutional recognition. Regional councillor Pierpaolo Roberti described the translation effort as a statement that all linguistic variants in the region deserve equal dignity alongside officially recognized languages.
Funded through a regional budget allocation, the project also aims to strengthen cultural ties with Veneto and promote shared linguistic heritage across borders.
Roberti suggested the translation of the region’s special statute could be a future step in further embedding local languages within institutional life.
