Interview: Trieste Police chief, Lilia Fredella
The Polizia di Stato is marking its 174th founding anniversary on Friday, April 10, 2026, with official ceremonies held simultaneously across Italy.
April 10 commemorates the day in 1981 when Law No. 121 came into force, transforming the military Corpo delle Guardie di Pubblica Sicurezza into the modern Polizia di Stato, a civilian administration with special status.
The theme chosen for 2026, “La Polizia che guarda al futuro,” reflects the institution’s focus on technological evolution, the new challenges facing its officers, and upcoming recruitment competitions.
In Trieste, the Questura—led by Questore Lilia Fredella, who took office in April 2025—organized local observances in line with national guidelines, including the traditional tribute to fallen officers at the headquarters’ memorial.
