The regional government of Friuli Venezia Giulia is developing a Renewable Energy Community (CER) that will cover the entire territory. The initiative, presented by Fabio Scoccimarro, Regional Councilor for Environment, Energy, and Sustainable Development, on Thursday, 19 February, aims to create a single, region-wide governance structure designed to streamline administration, reduce costs, and generate value on a larger scale. According to the councilor, the community is intended to produce and share renewable energy locally while strengthening the region’s energy autonomy.
Regional officials reported that 25 institutions and organizations have signed a memorandum of understanding with the administration. These include Chambers of Commerce, trade associations, cooperatives, private companies, Ater housing agencies, religious institutions, land reclamation consortia, the University of Trieste and the University of Udine, along with ARPA FVG and ANCI FVG.
The process began on October 20, 2025, and will continue through April 2026, with a series of meetings aimed at assessing local needs, evaluating production-chain potential, and identifying social priorities as well as research and innovation opportunities.
From an energy standpoint, the CER plans to promote the development of renewable energy plants, expand energy storage systems, and encourage collective self-consumption. The project is also expected to enhance regional energy stability and reduce exposure to fluctuations in international energy markets, Scoccimarro said.
Beyond infrastructure, the initiative includes educational and training programs and seeks to address energy poverty while supporting vulnerable communities.
