Cities across Italy marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on Tuesday, 25 November with widespread demonstrations calling for stronger protections and cultural change. In the regional capital of Friuli Venezia Giulia, hundreds of protesters gathered in Piazza Goldoni before marching through the city center toward Piazza Unità d’Italia. Across the country, many public buildings were illuminated in red to honor victims of gender-based violence; in Trieste, the University of Trieste lit its main building in the same color as part of the nationwide tribute. Participants carried banners, chanted messages of solidarity with victims, and urged national leaders to accelerate efforts to address what advocacy groups describe as a persistent and deeply rooted crisis.
