Trieste is getting ready to shine this festive season. The city has officially presented A Trieste per le Feste, its ambitious holiday program that brings together more than seventy events across piazzas, museums, and neighborhoods, along with a special Christmas promotion for the city’s annual museum pass.

The announcements were made at Palazzo Gopcevich, where Culture and Tourism Councillor Giorgio Rossi introduced a program designed, he said, “to celebrate an extraordinary year” and to offer residents and visitors a rich, city-wide holiday experience. The festivities will begin on November 28 with the lighting of the Christmas illuminations in Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia, accompanied by the Adriatic Choir of the United World College—80 young singers from around the world.

Music in Every Corner of the City

This year’s holiday calendar expands its musical offerings. Christmas carolers, swing trios, and vocal ensembles will perform throughout the historic center—from Piazza Cavana to via San Nicolò—while local bands from ANBIMA FVG will bring classic holiday melodies to both downtown streets and surrounding districts.

Two evening events will take place at Sala Luttazzi in Porto Vivo: a family-friendly concert featuring Disney songs, musical numbers, and Christmas favorites, and a theater performance dedicated to the memory of a historic horse chestnut tree from Piazza Hortis.

Itinerant performances will also return to the city’s museums, including Un caffè con il Barone at the Revoltella Museum and Lionello Stock, lo spirito di un’epoca at the Sartorio Museum, supported by PromoTurismoFVG.

Museums Bring Holiday Magic to Trieste’s Families

Trieste’s Civic Museums will offer a full calendar of activities for families and children aged 6 to 11. Designed as more than simple guided tours, these programs blend play, creativity, and discovery. They will be hosted across several institutions, including the Museum of the Sea, the Museum of Oriental Art, the Natural History Museum, and the Sartorio Museum.

A standout event is A Day as an Explorer at the Natural History Museum on December 29 and 30, allowing children to spend an entire morning uncovering the treasures of one of Italy’s oldest natural history collections.

Activities open for registration on December 1, with limited spots available.

A Special Christmas Museum Pass

From December 1, 2025 to January 6, 2026, the city will offer its annual museum pass for just €15. The pass provides unlimited access for 12 months to several major museums, including Revoltella, San Giusto Castle, the Natural History Museum, and the Museum of the War for Peace Diego de Henriquez. Many other municipal museums remain permanently free.

Passes may be purchased online or at selected ticket offices across the city.

A City Immersed in Light and Tradition

This year’s holiday season is expected to illuminate Trieste with thousands of lights, decorated evergreens, and performances that showcase the city’s architectural beauty and unique blend of sea and Karst landscape. With support from the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, PromoTurismoFVG, and the Trieste Convention and Visitors Bureau, the program aims to welcome both locals and visitors into the city’s festive atmosphere.
