The regional government of Friuli Venezia Giulia has approved development agreements for two major industrial initiatives in Trieste and Amaro, pledging more than €3 million in co-financing alongside national funds.

Sergio Emidio Bini, the regional councilor for productive activities, said the decision reflects the region’s continued support for investment proposals capable of strengthening local industry. “We are committed to backing development programs that have a meaningful impact on the competitiveness of our production system, especially in the fields of research, development and innovation,” he said.

The agreements concern investment plans submitted by Illycaffè and the aerospace and defense company Leonardo. The region will contribute €3 million to Illycaffè’s program and €27,000 to Leonardo’s initiative.

According to Mr. Bini, the steady flow of investment projects demonstrates the region’s growing appeal. Industrial development consortia, he said, are nearing full capacity, a sign that both national and international companies—particularly those operating in high-tech sectors—see Friuli Venezia Giulia as an attractive base for expansion.

He attributed the recent growth to targeted policies and long-term planning, including the region’s “FVG Manifattura 2030” agenda. “This approach allows us to create optimal conditions for new projects and for sustainable, lasting economic development,” Mr. Bini said.

Illycaffè’s plan involves industrial research, experimental development and innovation projects at its Trieste facilities, with a total investment of €115 million. Leonardo’s proposal, titled “Intelligent Secure Trustable Things” (Insectt), outlines research and development activities across several national sites, including its plant in Amaro, where spending is expected to reach €900,000.

In both cases, the region will cover 3 percent of the planned investment costs, contributing more than €3 million overall to the two programs.
