The 25th edition of the Trieste Science+Fiction Festival concluded Sunday night with its traditional awards ceremony at the Politeama Rossetti, drawing more than 20,000 attendees over six days of screenings, talks, and events. The turnout reinforced the festival’s status as Italy’s leading celebration of the science-fiction and fantasy genres, now a fixture in the country’s cultural calendar for a quarter-century.

This year’s top honor, the Premio Asteroide for best film by an emerging director in the science-fiction, horror, or fantasy category, was awarded to Redux Redux by American filmmakers Kevin and Matthew McManus. The film follows a mother on a vengeful journey across parallel universes, traveling through time with the help of a contraband time machine. The jury praised its inventive approach and cross-genre storytelling.

The Méliès d’Argent, given to the best European production, went to The Shrinking Man by Jan Kounen. Based on Richard Matheson’s classic novel, the film stars Academy Award winner Jean Dujardin as a man who begins to shrink following a mysterious contamination and must navigate a suddenly perilous world.

Founded in 2000, the festival has grown steadily, attracting international filmmakers, industry guests, and fans of speculative cinema. Organizers noted that the strong attendance this year reflects a continued appetite for imaginative storytelling and genre innovation on the big screen.
