The city of Trieste has announced a series of temporary traffic restrictions ahead of the “Consegna della Bandiera di Combattimento di Nave Trieste” (“Combat Flag Presentation Ceremony of the Trieste Ship”), scheduled to take place in Piazza Unità d’Italia on Sunday, October 26.

According to the ordinance, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on both Saturday, October 25, and Sunday, October 26 — or until deemed no longer necessary — vehicle and bicycle traffic will be prohibited along the city’s waterfront. The ban also extends to electric micromobility devices, including scooters, on the stretch of the waterfront cycle path between Riva del Mandracchio, Riva Caduti per l’Italianità, and Riva Tre Novembre, from the intersection with Via di Mercato Vecchio to Piazza Nicolò Tommaseo.

Emergency and law enforcement vehicles, as well as official vehicles participating in the ceremony, will be exempt from these restrictions.

On Saturday, October 25 only, the city has granted an additional exemption to local public transportation operated by TPL FVG (formerly Trieste Trasporti S.p.A.), allowing buses to circulate and stop at their designated areas along the affected routes.

Authorities have also reserved the right to modify or expand these measures as needed during the event, based on real-time assessments by law enforcement officers on site.

The “Nave Trieste” ceremony, taking place in the city’s iconic main square, is expected to draw significant public attention, honoring the Italian Navy’s newest amphibious assault ship and underscoring Trieste’s long-standing maritime heritage.
