Throughout October 2025, residents and visitors will have the opportunity to explore two of Trieste’s most significant industrial heritage landmarks — the Hydrodynamic Power Station and the Electric Substation — through a series of free guided tours organized by Italia Nostra Trieste in collaboration with the Municipality of Trieste.
The initiative is part of a broader agreement between the city and Italia Nostra Aps aimed at promoting the preservation and public appreciation of the Porto Vecchio – Porto Vivo district, an area currently undergoing an extensive process of urban and cultural revitalization.
Each visit lasts approximately 90 minutes and offers a glimpse into the city’s industrial past, when these facilities powered the operations of Trieste’s historic port. The tours will be held on the following dates:
- Wednesday, October 8, at 9:30 a.m.
- Saturday, October 11, at 3:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, October 15, at 9:30 a.m.
- Wednesday, October 22, at 9:30 a.m.
- Wednesday, October 29, at 9:30 a.m.
Participants will meet in front of the Electric Substation at Viale Miramare 24/4 at 9:45 a.m. for morning visits and 2:45 p.m. for afternoon visits.
While admission is free, advance booking is required at least five days before the chosen date by writing to trieste@italianostra.org. The organization also welcomes group bookings, which can be arranged for alternative dates and times.
The guided tours are part of an ongoing effort to reconnect Trieste’s residents with the city’s maritime and industrial heritage, highlighting how the once-abandoned Porto Vecchio is steadily transforming into Porto Vivo — a living hub of history, innovation, and culture.
