To accommodate the crowds expected at one of northeastern Italy’s most popular food festivals, Trenitalia and the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government announced on Thursday that 55 additional trains will run between September 26 and 28 for a special edition of Gusti di Frontiera, part of the GO!2025 program.

The extra trains, which will operate late into the evening, will connect Gorizia with nearby cities including Trieste, Monfalcone, Udine, Pordenone, Sacile, Gemona and Carnia. In total, 60,000 seats will be offered, double the usual capacity.

The three-day festival, which has grown into one of the region’s largest gastronomic events, will feature more than 400 food stands lining the streets of Gorizia. Vendors will serve local dishes alongside international specialties, with additional markets dedicated to crafts and artisanal goods.

Organizers also introduced a series of discounted fares to encourage train travel. On Friday, passengers under 26 can purchase tickets at 20 percent off within Friuli Venezia Giulia for both regular and special regional trains to and from Gorizia. Throughout the weekend, children under 12 accompanied by a paying adult over 26 may travel for free, while the ongoing “Promo Weekend FVG” will continue to offer 20 percent discounts on regional train tickets within the region on Saturdays and Sundays.

Tickets are available through the Trenitalia website and app, at station ticket counters and self-service machines, as well as at about 4,700 authorized retailers across Italy, including Lottomatica, Sisal and SIR outlets.

The transportation boost underscores the scale of the festival, which has become a centerpiece of Gorizia’s cultural calendar as the city prepares, along with its Slovenian neighbor Nova Gorica, to serve as European Capital of Culture in 2025.
