The Friuli Venezia Giulia region announced details of the upcoming “Corsa dei Castelli,” a 10-kilometer road race scheduled for Sunday, October 19 in Trieste, highlighting a growing connection between sports and environmental sustainability.

Regional Councilor for the Environment Fabio Scoccimarro, speaking at the event’s presentation on Tuesday, described the initiative as part of a long-term effort to combine athletic participation with ecological awareness. “This edition of the race is characterized by the even stronger union between sport and environmental sustainability, a path we began years ago, especially with young people,” he said, noting educational programs on environmental responsibility supported by the region.

The event will feature several races. Alongside the main 10K competition, organizers have planned the non-competitive Ten and an 8-kilometer Family Run, both open to participants without federation membership or a medical certificate. In addition, the third edition of the International Road Race Running Match U23 10K will precede the main race, bringing together young athletes from 10 countries.

The event will also have a charitable dimension, with proceeds and visibility directed to Trieste’s Burlo Garofolo pediatric hospital.

Scoccimarro emphasized that the event is designed not only for elite competitors but also for recreational runners and families. “It is always worth remembering that sport is a fundamental component of health,” he said.

Elisa Lodi, Trieste’s municipal councillor for sports, also attended the presentation.
