The city’s cultural calendar continues its vibrant summer rhythm with a series of public events scheduled from July 15 to 17 as part of Trieste Estate, a longstanding festival promoting local heritage through music, history, and performance.

The highlight of the program is the opening of the popular Archeologia di sera (Archaeology by Night) series, held in the gardens of the Museo d’Antichità “J.J. Winckelmann.” The museum, which has preserved the city’s ancient artifacts since the 19th century and expanded its collection to include relics from various civilizations, will serve as the backdrop for a talk by Emanuela Murgia, professor at the University of Trieste.

On Tuesday, July 15, at 8:30 p.m., Professor Murgia will present an open-air lecture titled Roman Wall Painting in Trieste and the Region, exploring the artistic and historical significance of frescoes found throughout the area. Her presentation will take place in the museum’s “Giardino del Capitano,” where sculptures, inscriptions, and tombstones from the medieval and early modern periods are displayed.

The evening will conclude with a live performance by “Lumen Harmonicum,” a Trieste-based instrumental trio. The group will perform a curated selection of works thematically connected to Roman art and culture, offering a musical reflection on the imagery and atmosphere evoked in Murgia’s lecture.

Additional events at the nearby Sartorio Museum Garden and Piazza Verdi will continue over the following evenings, with further details to be announced by city organizers. The initiative is part of a broader effort to integrate Trieste’s historical heritage with contemporary cultural expression, inviting both residents and visitors to experience the city’s rich past in engaging new formats.

All events are free and open to the public.
