The city of Trieste will host the sixth edition of the “Memorial Figli delle Stelle” on July 19, in honor of police officers Matteo Demenego and Pierluigi Rotta, who were killed in the line of duty in 2019. The commemorative football match will take place at the Trebiciano sports field, beginning at 5 p.m.

Mayor Roberto Dipiazza formally announced the event Tuesday morning during a press conference held in the Salotto Azzurro of Trieste’s City Hall. Also in attendance were City Councillor for Sports and Public Property Elisa Lodi, Trieste Police Chief Lilia Fredella, event founder and former city councillor Michele Claudio, President of the Trieste chapter of the State Police Association Maurizio Iannarelli, journalist Nicolò Giraldi representing the press team, and Christian Vitrani of Trieste’s emergency medical services (ASUGI-118).

The event, created to remember Demenego and Rotta, brings together local institutions, journalists, emergency workers, and the police community through sport. It has become an annual fixture in Trieste’s calendar of civic commemorations.
