This July, visitors and residents of Trieste will have the opportunity to explore the city’s industrial heritage through a series of guided tours of the historic Sottostazione Elettrica and Centrale Idrodinamica, located in the Porto Vecchio (Old Port) district.

The initiative is part of an ongoing collaboration between the Municipality of Trieste and Italia Nostra, a national non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Italy’s cultural and environmental heritage. The tours are organized by the Trieste chapter of Italia Nostra and are aimed at enhancing public appreciation of the architectural and historical significance of the port’s early infrastructure.

Tours will take place on the following Wednesdays in July:

  • July 9
  • July 16
  • July 23
  • July 30

Each tour begins at 9:30 a.m., with participants meeting at 9:15 a.m. in front of the Sottostazione Elettrica at Viale Miramare 24/4. The tours last approximately 90 minutes and must be booked at least five days in advance by emailing trieste@italianostra.org.

In addition to the scheduled visits, Italia Nostra is open to arranging group tours on other dates and times upon request, following the same reservation process.

Tours will pause during the month of August and are set to resume in September. The initiative reflects growing local interest in the revitalization of the Porto Vecchio area—part of a broader cultural and urban regeneration effort currently underway in the city.
