Ryanair, Europe’s largest low-cost airline, announced the launch of a new seasonal route connecting Trieste Airport and Stockholm Arlanda, set to begin as part of the carrier’s Summer 2025 schedule. The route will operate twice weekly and is intended to offer both residents of Friuli Venezia Giulia and international visitors additional travel options at competitive prices.
The announcement was marked by a ceremony at Trieste Airport on Wednesday, attended by Cristina Sbaizero, Honorary Consul of Sweden in Trieste; Marco Consalvo, CEO of Trieste Airport; and Fabrizio Francioni, Ryanair’s Head of Communications for Italy.
Stockholm becomes the 21st destination offered by Ryanair to and from Trieste this summer. All routes are now available for booking through the airline’s website.
“We are pleased to inaugurate the new Trieste–Stockholm Arlanda route for Summer 2025, which will help drive tourism and passenger traffic,” said Francioni. “This twice-weekly service is part of our broader commitment to expanding low-fare travel options.”
Francioni also praised recent regional policy decisions that have contributed to Ryanair’s growth in the area. Friuli Venezia Giulia was the first Italian region to eliminate the municipal surcharge on flights, a move Ryanair credits with stimulating passenger growth, increasing tourism, and creating jobs.
As a result of the policy shift, Ryanair has expanded its presence at Trieste Airport, including the addition of two based aircraft, ten new routes, and a doubling of overall traffic, the airline reports. According to Ryanair, the changes have supported more than 800 jobs since the surcharge was eliminated.
