In a recent address at the “GO!2025 meets the economic world” event, Sergio Emidio Bini, the regional assessor for Tourism and Productive Activities, highlighted the transformative potential of GO!2025 for the Isontina area and Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Bini emphasized that the event doesn’t just signify a boost to tourism, with early indicators already showing promise, but also promises significant economic growth and advancement across various sectors. It’s poised to serve as a catalyst for enduring development.
Hosted by the municipalities of Gorizia, Nova Gorica, and Šempeter-Vrtojba and convened at GECT – European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation’s headquarters on Corso Italia 55 in Gorizia, the event drew attention to the incentives and support structures available in anticipation of the region’s designation as the European Capital of Culture in 2025.
Bini underscored the remarkable opportunities ahead, citing data projecting a 13% increase in tourism for Gorizia by 2023. Moreover, he highlighted the vast potential for new productive ventures, with the Coseveg (Economic Development Consortium of Venezia Giulia) offering over 1.7 million square meters for fresh investments – the most extensive area available in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. Bolstered by ample space and supported by regional resources, which have seen an infusion of over 250 million euros within the first year of the legislative term, the region stands poised for comprehensive growth.
Logistics emerged as a focal point of regional strategy, with Bini stressing the strategic importance of enhancing domestic and international connections via Trieste Airport, aligning seamlessly with Gorizia’s aspirations for 2025. Innovation, digitalization, international outreach, female entrepreneurship, artisanal support, forestry initiatives, and enhanced access to credit, bolstered by a recent injection of 135 million euros, constitute the core pillars of the region’s proactive agenda, as outlined by Bini.
Highlighting the commitment to bolstering tourism, Bini noted recent initiatives such as the allocation of 11 million euros for territory promotion and an additional 3.3 million euros earmarked for supporting cinematic productions. Plans are also underway to incentivize upscale hotel development in mountainous areas, with applications already pouring in, signaling robust interest. Additionally, a dedicated funding stream for dispersed accommodation, slated to launch soon, underscores the region’s commitment to hospitality infrastructure.
As the curtains close on the event, praise for its organization and foresight pours in from GECT President Paolo Petiziol and Gorizia Mayor Rodolfo Ziberna, alongside introductory remarks from counterparts in Nova Gorica and Šempeter-Vrtojba, underscoring a united commitment to leveraging GO!2025 for transformative regional development.
