Tourism in Friuli Venezia Giulia has grown by 21 percent since 2019, reaching a record 11 million overnight stays in 2025, according to figures presented by the regional government.

The region recorded a further 1.3 percent increase in overnight stays between May and August 2026 compared with the same period last year, with 6.8 million overnight stays during summer.

Sergio Emidio Bini, the regional councilor for productive activities and tourism, presented the figures at the Federalberghi FVG assembly in Trieste. He said the region had allocated €40 million in support for the hotel sector over the past 12 months.

The funding includes incentives for the development of four-star and higher-rated accommodation, support for tourism businesses, grants for improving environmental sustainability, assistance for albergo diffuso properties — accommodation spread across existing buildings in historic villages — and the Turesta voucher program, which encourages visitors to stay in the region.

Bini also highlighted a new regional code governing commerce and tourism, which he said had reduced the complexity of existing regulations. The legislation consolidates provisions previously spread across 14 laws and 29 implementing regulations, reducing the number of articles from 567 to 147.

Looking ahead to 2027, Bini said the region expected further opportunities from major events, including Pordenone’s designation as Italian Capital of Culture. He identified expanding accommodation capacity, improving service quality and attracting younger visitors as priorities for the sector.

He also called for tourism to be distributed more evenly across the region, encouraging visitors to explore destinations beyond the most popular locations and to travel at different times of the year.

Bini said attracting younger people would require opportunities not only for employment but also for entrepreneurship. He attributed the sector’s recent growth to cooperation between regional authorities, private businesses and industry associations.
