Police officers, law enforcement personnel and residents gathered in Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia for a blood and plasma donation drive organized by Donatori Nati, the State Police’s blood-donor association.

The mobile collection unit operated from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with health workers from ASU FC’s Palmanova district scheduled to collect donations from 24 people, including police officers and members of the public.

Leonardo Boido, regional president of Donatori Nati, said the initiative was intended to encourage donations for patients with serious illnesses, as well as for medical research and the development of medicines.

“It is an important moment of closeness and solidarity for everyone,” Boido said.

A State Police camper was set up to welcome donors, while the provincial committee of the Italian Red Cross provided support with a nearby information gazebo.

The initiative builds on a donation program involving the Trieste Police School. About 100 trainees from the school’s 233rd course donated blood in 2026, according to Donatori Nati.

More than 450 students at the Trieste police training institute have donated since 2023, when the association signed an agreement with Trieste’s Ospedale Maggiore to promote blood donation among police trainees.

The organizers said the program is intended to make blood donation a regular part of the police community’s activities while encouraging residents to participate as well.
